What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice that has been used for over 2,500 years in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate natural healing, balance energy flow, and restore health.
Acupuncture is based on the concept of Qi (pronounced “chee”), the body’s vital life force that flows through pathways called meridians. When Qi becomes blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to pain, illness, and emotional distress. Acupuncture works by releasing these blockages, promoting circulation, and encouraging the body’s ability to heal itself.

How Does Acupuncture Work?
Modern research suggests that acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system, increasing blood circulation, and triggering the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals (endorphins). It also helps regulate hormones, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation.
From a Western medical perspective, acupuncture:
✔ Stimulates the central nervous system, promoting healing responses
✔ Reduces stress hormones, helping with anxiety and mood disorders
✔ Improves circulation and oxygen flow, reducing pain and inflammation
✔ Supports the immune system, making it beneficial for chronic conditions
